Bootcamp in France

A group of 9 students and 3 teachers from Spain, specifically from IES Campanillas Málaga and Col·legi Sant Gabriel Barcelona, ​​have had the incredible opportunity to travel to Clermont-Ferrand, France, to participate in the “DisinformACTION” bootcamp. This event has brought together 62 participants from several European countries, suchas France, Latvia and Romania, in an educational initiative aimedat combating misinformation aboutclimate change.

This gathering of young students was short, but it was still very enjoyable. The first day was dedicated to arriving at the destination, but the second day started off with great energy, allowing the participants to meet each other in person. Icebreaker activities were organized to increase trust among the students. Prior to the event, we had created campaigns about how misinformation affects climate change. After the introductory activities, each group had the chance to present their campaigns. 

The third day flowed smoothly, focusing on climate change-related themes to work actively and blend the different nations together.

But it wasn’t all work! We also went on a tour to explore the city and learn about the European Union’s influence in Clermont-Ferrand thanks to Europe Direct.
On the last night, a special intercultural event was held to showcase and celebrate the typical customs of each country. 

Personal experiences of our participants:

Gisela
This project has given me much more knowledge about how to combat fake news on different topics, especially sustainability. In addition, it has helped me improve my English level by talking with other Bootcamp classmates.
I would like to tell young people not to believe the first thing they see or read, and to inform themselves about things so that fake news does not misinform or manipulate anyone. I would also like to encourage young people to do volunteer work or sustainable activities. We young people are the future!
I’ve learned that cooperation and understanding are very important when we are as a team, to be able to understand everything and do a good job.

Mario
The project has given me the opportunity to meet new cultures and partners from other countries, as well as to share ideas about disinformation about climate change.
I consider it essential to make young people raise awareness about climate disinformation and dangers of climate change.
The project has also given me the chance to learn about initiatives which have been carried out in other countries, including digital campaigns, which I am going to propose in order to be implemented in my school.

Lucia
Thanks to this project in which we could enjoy for 4-days with young people from Latvia, France and Romania, I was able to learn more about climate change and its effects, as well as how to fight disinformation on social media.
-Something I would like young generations to learn is to differentiate the news we see online or in social media, because many people tend to believe news without double-checking the information.
-Thanks to their various campaigns I was able to learn lots of different methods to fight disinformation and how they developed their projects in their home towns.
